Hair Stylist

Peter Platel (1966), one of Belgium's leading hair stylists, became known to the general public as the hair stylist of the TV show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (Belgian edition). Since 2016 Peter Platel is the face and re-creator of the biggest photo contest in Europe for students of hairdressing, the Joico School Contest.


As a driven entrepreneur, Peter Platel has been managing Wakko Hairdressers for the past 25 years. He guides his fantastic team with a lot of passion and drive. For Peter, people come first. His personal mission is to contribute in an authentic, inspirational and motivational way on a daily basis, so that he and the people around him can grow into the best version of themselves.

Wakko Hairdressers is a group of Joico Ambassador Salons located in Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent. Wakko Hairdressers sets itself apart from most other hair salons by 'cutting on dry hair' and celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2017.


With Hou Van Haar (Love Her/Hair) Peter Platel makes his debut as a writer in 2015. With the adaptation for the stage of Hou Van Haar he returns to his love for the theater. Peter also blogs about hair and hairstyles, fashion and art, books and authors, sex and transgender at (in Dutch). His second book, 101 Tips for Healthy, Happy and Shiny Hair is being distributed in Dutch and French from 1 March 2017 onwards on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of De Wakko Kapper. The English Translation of 101 Tips will be published in the Spring of 2018.


Peter constantly keeps reinventing himself and continues to grow. Passionate about positive psychology and self-development, he is committed to making “Wakko Hairdressers” a unique workplace. In addition, he enjoys sharing his knowledge. Inspired by everything he has learnt and the experience he has built in the hairdressing sector for over 25 years, he helps other hairdressers and entrepreneurs to take their business and life to the next level.

From 2008 onwards, Peter has participated in a series of self-development seminars with world-renowned author, life coach and motivational speaker Anthony Robbins, which has led to his position as Senior Leader for the Anthony Robbins Company. At the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California, Peter becomes Belgium's first Vedic Master in 2011, under the guidance of bestselling author, physician and mind-body specialist Deepak Chopra.

Starting in 2018, Peter will be travelling internationally with his program Seven Strategies for a Successful Salon (available in English and Dutch). Seeing and hearing Peter is a unique, inspiring and entertaining experience every single time.

Making a Difference

Peter Platel is the founder of Make Up 2 Make Up, a Belgian non-profit organization that supports the transgender community in Kathmandu, Nepal. Make Up 2 Make Up has organized English language trainings and courses in Hair and Make-up in Kathmandu since 2008. This gives those who otherwise disappear on the verge of society the necessary self-confidence and a solid foundation for a job in the regular labor market.
